Makaton
'Makaton sign language has been introduced across the school. All children have been equipped with a basic vocabulary that is enhanced with a new ‘word of the week’ throughout the years. This innovation will enable pupils to communicate with a wide range of people, and the kinaesthetic aspect of Makaton is also appreciated as a means of more deeply embedding vocabulary acquisition and understanding. During the assessment, the entire pupil population was seen signing good morning to the headteacher, and to each other, at the beginning of assembly.' (IQM report, March 25)
