Poplars Primary School

E-Safety

Online safety is a paramount aspect of safeguarding at Poplars Community Primary School and is not taught in isolation. Instead, it is carefully woven throughout our curriculum to ensure pupils develop a secure, age-appropriate, and comprehensive understanding of how to stay safe in an ever-changing digital world.

Online safety is taught explicitly through PSHE and RSE, Computing, and is reinforced regularly through assemblies and workshops throughout the academic year. This planned and progressive approach enables children to build a thorough and robust understanding of safe online behaviour, digital responsibility, and how to respond to potential risks.

Alongside our curriculum provision, we have extensive security and filtering systems in place within school, which are monitored both internally and externally to help protect pupils from inappropriate content and online dangers. Any online safety concerns or incidents are recorded and managed in line with our safeguarding procedures.

We recognise that safeguarding children online is most effective when there is a strong partnership between school and home. We therefore encourage parents and carers to regularly discuss online safety with their children and reinforce consistent messages about appropriate online behaviour, helping pupils to make safe and responsible choices both in and beyond school.

NSPCC Online Safety

It’s essential to be realistic - banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. Education around safe use is essential.
