6CS Swimming Lesson (AM)

Swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and every child is expected to take part. By the end of Key Stage 2, children must be taught to swim 25 metres unaided, use recognized strokes, and perform safe self-rescue, ensuring they possess vital, life-saving skills before leaving primary school.

All children will need a swimming costume, swimming hat and towel. Girls will need to have a one-piece costume and boys will need to wear swimming trunks not baggy shorts (don’t forget to pack underwear for them to put on after the swimming sessions!)

Please ensure that your child’s swimming kit and school uniform is named as this really helps us to sort out changing room muddles and to find lost items! You will also be able to buy swimming hats from the school office, these are priced at £1 each.

Lessons will take place in the pools at the Water Lane Leisure Centre. Children who are confident and experienced swimmers will be taught in the bigger pool, while the other children will use the smaller pool, which is suitable for beginners and those who are developing their swimming skills.

As the children have already taken part in swimming when they were in year 5, they will stay in the groups they were in. Anyone who is new to our school this academic year will do the first session as a non-swimmer/beginner to be assessed for the future weeks.
